Josh Luker was Ton Pentre’s goalscoring hero as he squeezed his 51st minute shot into the goal from a tight angle to give the Bulldogs a vital 1-0 victory over Caerau Ely in their battle against relegation.
Before the match, Ton Pentre were bottom of the Welsh League Division One table, with Caerau positioned one place above on goal difference.
Ton Pentre’s last win was on 15 April 2017 at Taffs Well. The Bulldogs won that game 4-2 and have been made to wait until 17 February 2018 to win in the league again.
That’s 23 matches, over 2,070 minutes of football.
In the game against Caerau Ely, the Bulldogs turned in a dedicated and committed performance and were determined to bag their first three points of the season.
Ton Pentre always looked the most dangerous team in the game and really should have won more comfortably with Luker and Sam Small going close during the second half after the Bulldogs had taken the lead.
The Bulldogs are now third from bottom in the table having leapfrogged Caerau Ely and Cwmamman United.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the visit of title chasing Haverfordwest County on Saturday, 24 February. Kick off at Ynys Park is at 2:00pm.
