After their opening match of the season at Port Talbot Town was abandoned on Sunday at 1-1 six minutes from time, Ton Pentre got themselves off to a winning start at home against Garden Village in the Welsh League Youth Division.
The young Bulldogs played some neat football against their West Wales opponents, scoring both goals in their 2-0 win during the first half.
Kieren Bassett gave Ton Pentre the lead in the 19th minute before Brandon Coombes made it 2-0 three minutes later when he shot from the edge of the box.
The only disappointment in the game for the Bulldogs was the sending off of Bassett in the 83rd minute for violent conduct. The Ton Pentre Youth Captain went in search of revenge on an opponent who had committed a nasty challenge on his moments earlier. He will now miss the next three youth team matches through suspension.
Ton Pentre’s next match is once again at home on Monday, 18 September against Monmouth Town. The game kicks off at 7:30pm.
Meanwhile, the Welsh League has ruled that the abandoned match at Port Talbot will need to be re-arranged. A new date will be set in due course.
