Ton Pentre registered a third pre-season victory at Ynys Park against Blaenrhondda as the Welsh League Division One season draws ever closer.
Despite losing, Blaenrhondda will be very pleased with the result as they frustrated the Bulldogs by restricting them to just one goal.
Blaenrhondda sit six leagues lower (South Wales Alliance League Division Two) than Ton Pentre in the Welsh football pyramid but they’ve assembled a decent squad and will be encouraged for the new season.
The Bulldogs never really looked in danger during this match and generally controlled proceedings throughout, however, they would have desired a more convincing final score line.
Nevertheless, there were solid performances throughout the team and in the 36th minute, Nathan Facey took his goal well when presented with an opportunity.
The Bulldogs were without Leon Jacka for this match as the attacker attempts to get over an injury in time for Saturday’s (5 August) visit to Paulton Rovers. However, captain Thomas Davies received some game time as he recovers from a hamstring injury and Gavin Morris also played after missing the 5-1 win over Swansea University with an ankle injury.
Ton Pentre’s next and final pre-season match is against Paulton Rovers of the Evo-Stick Southern League West on Saturday, 5 August. Kick off at The Athletic Ground (BS39 7RF) is at 3:00pm.
