Ton Pentre were held to a 2-2 draw at Ynys Park by a Treharris Athletic team that are managed by former Bulldogs defender Ross Porter.
Ton Pentre operated a ‘pay what you want’ scheme for the match and it attracted a healthy crowd to Ynys Park for this pre-season friendly and they saw Treharris open the scoring after seven minutes.
The Bulldogs deservedly equalised during the 20th minute of play when a move that started with defender Josh Hardy finished with Nathan Facey setting-up Sam Small to score.
Ton Pentre opened up space across the pitch and created plenty of goalscoring chances but the match remained level as the teams went into the half-time break.
Ten minutes after the restart of play for the second half, the Bulldogs were in the lead after a defensive error by Treharris conceded possession to Facey, who ran into the box and struck low across the face of the goal, settling the ball inside the right post for 2-1.
Despite manager Lee Phillips changing many of the playing personnel in the second half, Ton Pentre looked good to hold on to the lead, however, ex-Bulldogs striker Jaymie Wearn popped up with an equalising goal following his solo run 15 minutes from full-time.
As always at this stage of the season, the match would have left plenty for Phillips and assistant manager Steve Williams to ponder, with both positives and negatives throughout.
