Ton Pentre ran out 4-3 winners in their first pre-season match against AFC Llwydcoed.
The warm-up match for the 2017/18 season was played at the Sobell Leisure Centre 3G in Aberdare where the Bulldogs were quick to take the lead when a nice move finished with new signing Nathan Facey setting up Sam Small to score.
Moments before half-time AFC Llwydcoed levelled matters when Liam Price sneaked through the Ton Pentre defence to place the ball into the net.
On the hour, the Bulldogs regained the lead when Leon Jacka hit a low free kick past the Llwydcoed wall and directly into the goal for 2-1.
Just minutes later it was 3-1 as Ton Pentre captain Thomas Davies found himself in an advanced position to cooly slot the ball home.
The flurry of goals didn’t end here as within moments Llwydcoed were back in the game after they were awarded a dubious penalty. Ricky Carter of the home team sent Bulldogs goalkeeper Ryan Griffiths the wrong way to make it 3-2.
The game had barely restarted when the Bulldogs went on the attack through Josh Twoomey, who neatly chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper for 4-2.
With just five minutes of the match remaining, Llwydcoed pulled another goal back through Morgan Andrew’s sweet strike but the Bulldogs comfortably held on for the win.
The Bulldogs next pre-season match is at Ynys Park on 25 July against Treharris Athletic at 7.30pm. Check out our pre-season line-up by clicking here.
