SEASON OVER FOR THE BULLDOGS

Matches for all Bulldogs teams have now been completed.

Ton Pentre have completed the 2016/17 season with the First Team, Reserve Team and Youth Team now having completed all of their fixtures.

The First Team played out a 1-1 draw against Port Talbot Town at Ynys Park on Saturday (6 May). The Bulldogs had been behind to the Steelmen after Jandir Zola had given them a 66th minute lead despite being down to 10 men following a sending off in the first half.

Liam Hutchinson popped up with the equaliser in 79th minute with a direct free kick. Hutchinson’s powerful effort slipped through the hands of Port Talbot goalkeeper Rory McCreesh and into the back of his net.

The Bulldogs had several chances to win all three points before the full-time whistle was blown but were unable to get the ball over the line.

The Reserve Team played their final match of the season last Thursday (4 May), beating Treowen Stars Reserves 2-1 away from home. Reserve Team manager Ross Griffiths, guided the Bulldogs to a respectable fourth place finish in the Welsh League Reserve Division Central.

The Youth Team, who were recently crowned champions of Welsh League Youth Division East, were hoping to reach the League Cup Final on Sunday (7 May) when they hosted Tredegar Town at Ynys Park.

Tredegar however, brought the Bulldogs season to an abrupt end in the Semi-Final and scored their first of two goals after just 48 seconds. It was an uncharacteristic display from the Youth Team and a Final appearance just wasn’t to be. Tredegar scored their second in the 81st minute when they caught Ton Pentre on the break after the Bulldogs had committed players forward.

Nevertheless, the players and management can be incredibly proud of their achievements as the league title is what everyone desired.
