Ton Pentre are brimming with confidence and the Bulldogs are now undefeated in six games following their 2-0 win over fourth placed Caerau Ely.
Lee Phillips’ team got off to a fine start in this match when Corey Shephard played the ball from centre midfield out to Liam Reed on the left.
The Bulldogs striker used his pace to get around a Caerau defender and go into the 18-yard box. From the byline, Reed picked out a superb pass to Sam Small, who was able to slot the ball into net to make it 1-0 after just five minutes.
The Bulldogs were always in control of their own destiny in this match and even when Caerau Ely created several opportunities to put Ton Pentre under pressure, the Rhondda outfit defended incredibly well.
With just over an hour of the match played, Ton Pentre nearly increased their lead through Liam Hutchinson. The Bulldogs had been awarded a free kick on the outskirts of the Caerau box and Hutchinson hit a powerful effort that Scott James was relieved to see go wide of his left post.
Caerau Ely certainly had their chances and went close from a corner. The Cardiff team should have been level but a headed effort went over the bar from inside the six-yard box.
Moments later, Reed nearly made them rue that missed chance when he went one-on-one with James but the Caerau goalkeeper pulled off a fine save.
There was just 10 minutes remaining when Caerau had an effort cleared off the line before the Bulldogs went straight up the other end of the pitch where Corey Shephard made it 2-0 to secure all three points.
