Cambrian & Clydach and Ton Pentre played out a 0-0 draw in the latest Rhondda Derby between the clubs at King George V Playing Field.
Both teams created chances to win the game with the Bulldogs looking particularly impressive during the first half.
Sam Small should have given Ton Pentre the lead after just five minutes when Adam Lewis crossed into the box from the right. Small was positioned on the edge of the six-yard box and had a clean header but directed the ball off target.
The Bulldogs were playing confidently with Liam Reed, Matthew Smith and Andre Griffiths enjoying themselves when going forward.
Cambrian were lucky not to have been reduced to 10 men when Mark Crutch avoided a second yellow card for a deliberate handball offence that slowed the play down for the Bulldogs. He had earlier seen yellow for tripping Reed who had him beaten with pace up the right wing.
Just after half-time Small got the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for offside.
The Bulldogs went close again after they hit the post in the 67th minute, following which Cambrian started to take control of the Welsh League Division One match.
With 15 minutes of the derby encounter left, former Ton Pentre striker Leon Jacka went close for his new club as he flashed a shot across the front of the goal. Moments later, Joe Massaro was forced into pulling off an excellent save to deny the home team.
Jacka nearly won all three points for Cambrian in the 88th minute but his strike rattled the crossbar.
After relieving the pressure up the right wing, the Bulldogs were awarded a free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box in the sixth minute of added time.
Liam Hutchinson hit a swinging and dipping shot at goal that had Cambrian goalkeeper Stephen Hall completely beaten. It looked as though it was going in but the ball painstakingly struck the crossbar and that was the last of the action.
