TON WILL HAVE TO TAKE DOWN THE STARS TO PROGRESS IN WELSH CUP

Treowen Stars v Ton Pentre l JD Welsh Cup Round 2 l Saturday, 5 November 2016 l KO 2.00pm l Bush Park

Ton Pentre head East for Round 2 of the JD Welsh Cup as they make the trip to Welsh League Division Three outfit Treowen Stars.

Treowen are currently 10th in Division Three with three wins, three defeats and a solitary draw. To get to Round 2, the Stars have defeated Abertillery Bluebirds 3-2 (Qualifying Round 1), Tredegar Town 1-0 (Qualifying Round 2) and Division One club Risca United 4-1 (Round 1).

Ton Pentre were without a game last week as the Bulldogs were not involved in Round 3 of the Nathaniel Cars League Cup having been knocked out in Round 2 by Taffs Well.

Taffs Well were Treowen Stars opponents in Round 3 of the League Cup and the Gwent club took the Wellmen close but the Division One outfit avoided an upset with a 4-2 win, their fourth goal coming deep inside added time. The Stars will, therefore, be very tough opponents for the Bulldogs, in particular with their home advantage.

Ton Pentre circumvented Abergavenny Town in Round 1 of the JD Welsh Cup and will be favourites to progress to Round 3, but Manager Lee Phillips is certain to warn his squad against complacency.

The match at Bush Park (NP11 4RX) kicks off at 2.00pm.
