Abergavenny Town 0-5 Ton Pentre l Friendly Match l Saturday, 16 July 2016 l Pen-Y-Pound Stadium

Ton Pentre made an impressive start to pre-season at Pen-Y-Pound Stadium where they defeated Abergavenny Town 5-0.

It was a new look Bulldogs team that took to the pitch against the Welsh League Division Two outfit and they quickly found themselves a goal up when Corey Shephard slotted the ball under the advancing goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

Shortly after Liam Reed broke free of the defence and with composure he made it 2-0 to the Bulldogs with 21 minutes played.

The first half had been fairly even however, but Ton Pentre had taken their chances when presented with them.

With the hour mark having just passed, Leon Jacka broke through the Abergavenny defence to score Ton Pentre’s third goal of the match.

A few moments later, Reed headed in his second goal following a goalmouth scramble to give Ton Pentre a comfortable 4-0 lead.

With five minutes left on the clock, Alex Rees made it 5-0 with a skilful chip to cap a fine team performance.

Lee Phillips will be pleased with the result but the Bulldogs manager will continue working with his squad as Ton Pentre face tough pre-season opposition in the form of City of Liverpool and Newport County in the coming weeks.
