Ton Pentre welcome Risca United to Ynys Park today (30 April) for a crunch match in Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One. It’s a game that both teams need to win.
Both the Bulldogs and the Cuckoos are tangled in the battle against relegation with very few points separating the clubs in the bottom half of the table.
The Bulldogs achieved a fantastic victory at Aberbargoed Buds on Wednesday in what was also a must win game. Leon Jacka and Sam Small scored the goals and both will be looking for the back of the net once again against Risca at Ynys Park.
Manager Lee Phillips will once again be without Tom Billing, who still has three matches left to serve of a four match ban. Meanwhile, it is hoped that those players who came out the Aberbargoed Buds match with niggling injuries will be fit enough for today’s encounter.
A win or a draw for the Bulldogs would mean that Risca would not be able to catch them even with a victory in their remaining match against Garden Village. This would ensure that three clubs would finish below Ton Pentre, meaning that to avoid relegation the Bulldogs must finish above Monmouth Town, Aberdare Town or Briton Ferry Llansawel to avoid the bottom four.
Depending on results elsewhere in the Division One today, a Bulldogs victory could ensure safety. It is also pertinent to note that every team below must also play each other, therefore making it impossible for everyone to achieve maximum points from their remaining games.
