Goytre United 0-1 Ton Pentre l Welsh League Division One l Saturday, 12 March 2016 l Glenhafod Park Stadium

Ton Pentre set the agenda in this match playing offensive football from kick off but despite enjoying much possession in the Goytre half of the pitch, the home team’s defence was resolute.

Tom Billing came close with a header during the first half of the match and Leon Jacka was looking sharp, however, Goytre United defender Mark Crutch and his fellow defenders managed to keep the Bulldogs at bay.

In the second half, Goytre United were more potent in attack and it led to an entertaining conclusion to match as both teams looked dangerous in and around each other’s 18-yard boxes.

Ton Pentre goalkeeper Jarrad Howells pulled off a fine save to stop the home team from undoing the Bulldogs good work as Goytre increased the pressure.

As the match neared its conclusion, the result could have swayed either way but in the 90th minute Adam Lewis’ cross into the box from the right was headed down to Jacka by Nickie Jones. Jacka had ample space to unleash a powerful shot through a crowded box to score his 10th goal of the season and give Ton Pentre a dramatic late winner.

Ton Pentre have another tough challenge in their next match as title contenders Barry Town United come to Ynys Park on Saturday, 19 March at 2.30pm. When the teams last met they played out a thrilling 4-4 draw.
