Further to the introduction of the Bulldogs Youth Team in 2014, the committee of Ton Pentre AFC can today (6 March) reveal the Club’s latest move to create a sustainable and Community focused football infrastructure.
To ensure a strong platform for progression for local players, Ton Pentre AFC is exploring the possibility of introducing an additional senior team in the Welsh League Reserve Division for the 2016/17 season.
Bulldogs Chairman, Ceri Jones, explained some further background to this new project and said: “As a club we are committed to strengthening the pathway for our youth players to progress to Welsh Football League level.
“It is vital to the prosperity of high level football in the Valley that we seek to find this missing piece in the jigsaw. A reserve team is an absolute necessity to help the club build a robust youth and senior football structure.”
Regrettably the Bulldogs will not be able to field the Reserve team at its historic Ynys Park home due to capacity issues. Jones added: “Naturally we would love to put this proposed new Bulldogs team on our home ground but there is simply no capacity to do so.
“We have entered into some productive discussions with like-minded partners and we feel we have a fantastic potential alternative venue, but we will need to be guided by the Welsh League.
“Dialogue with the Welsh League will be underway very soon to explore the feasibility of these exciting new plans for our Club and our Community.”
