TON LOSE THEIR LEAD AS CARDIFF MET GO TOP

Cardiff Met University 2-1 Ton Pentre l Welsh League Division One l Saturday, 19 December 2015 l Cyncoed Campus

Ton Pentre let their lead slip in this Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One encounter with Cardiff Met University as they went down 2-1 to the Students who have now gone top of the league ahead of Christmas.

The difficult windy conditions and the wet 3G surface at the Cyncoed Campus made some of the play unpredictable, however, the Bulldogs took the lead with some excellent play.

Ton Pentre linked well across the pitch to get the ball to Leon Jacka out on the left. Having seen the run of Tom Billing, Jacka lifted a chipped through ball over the defence and into the striker’s path. Billing slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to the Bulldogs after just 3 minutes.

This was an entertaining match and the Students thought they’d equalised 10 minutes later but their celebrations were cut short by the Referee and his Assistant as the goalscorer was in an offside position.

It was an open game and Cardiff Met were to get their equaliser when Eliot Evans was on the end of a cross to the far post from the left, where he was able to turn the ball in past Jarrad Howells.

With 33 minutes of the match played, the Bulldogs gave away a free kick on the edge of their box that presented a dangerous chance to Cardiff Met. The Students took full advantage as Adam Roscow hit an unstoppable free kick into the top right-hand corner.

The frantic pace of the first half was not matched during the second half and Ton Pentre will be frustrated not to have created more chances.

The Bulldogs were fortunate not to be further behind in the 54th minute when Cardiff Met once again had a goal disallowed for an offside offence.

Ton Pentre were left frustrated at the final whistle to have not taken at least a point away with them. The difference between the teams on this occasion was a fantastic 33rd minute freekick.

The Bulldogs next match is on Saturday, 2 January 2016 when they welcome Penybont to Ynys Park at 2.00pm.
