The Bulldogs were knocked out of the Nathaniel Cars League Cup after allowing Goytre United to score too easily whilst themselves failing to take the goalscoring opportunities that they created.
Overall, Ton Pentre’s performance was reasonably good with the main difference between the teams being Goytre’s ability to take their chances when presented with them.
This was the third attempt to play this Nathaniel Cars League Cup match due to bad weather and the Goyts were certainly the sharpest when the game got underway after they took the lead through Jordan Davies with just 39 seconds on the clock.
Goytre doubled their lead on 18 minutes despite the Bulldogs enjoying a significant period of possession. Jordan Edwards was left unmarked as he drifted into the box from the left-hand side and received the ball from a teammate to easily score past Jarrad Howells.
Ten minutes later the Bulldogs should have grabbed a goal back when a cross into the Goytre United box from the left found Tom Billing. The Ton Pentre striker directed a good header on target but it rebounded off the right-hand post. The ball dropped directly at Sam Small’s feet but the unmarked attacker completely missed the ball when he swung a foot at it, allowing the Goytre defence time to clear from immediate danger.
Leon Jacka’s 57th minute cross into the penalty area provided the Bulldogs with some hope as Aaron Jewell got the ball over the line for 2-1.
The hope for a comeback was short lived however, as Ton Pentre gave away a free kick outside of their box five minutes later. When the ball was sent into the box it was allowed to bounce and the defence appeared to stand still while watching Jordan Edwards net his second goal to make it 3-1 to Goytre United.
Although creating several good opportunities to score, Ton Pentre were unable to make any of them count, leaving the Bulldogs without a win in six matches.
