Afan Lido 2-0 Ton Pentre l Welsh League Division One l Friday, 16 October 2015 l Marston's Stadium

It was a disappointing night for Ton Pentre at Afan Lido as the Bulldogs went down 2-0 following the first half sending off of Leon Jacka.

Afan Lido dominated the majority of proceedings in the first half with much of the play taking place around the Ton Pentre 18-yard box.

Somewhat against the run of play, new Bulldogs signing Sam Small should have given his team the lead when the ball broke for him in the box. However, the striker sent his shot directly at Afan Lido goalkeeper Chris Curtis.

As the half progressed, a brief escape from Afan Lido pressure allowed the Bulldogs to create another perfect opportunity to score when Small and Rob Blatchford combined. Following a skilful one-two, Blatchford’s shot went straight into the arms of a grateful Curtis.

The Bulldogs suffered a huge blow three minutes before half-time when Leon Jacka received a second yellow card after preventing a promising Afan Lido attack on the edge of the box. Having already been cautioned earlier in the half for tripping, he saw red and Ton Pentre were forced to play on with 10 men.

Afan Lido were determined to make their one man advantage count and immediately attacked the Ton Pentre defence at the commencement of the second half. The home team really should have scored following one goalmouth scramble but Bulldogs goalkeeper Jarrad Howells pulled off two wonderful saved from point-blank range.

Afan Lido got the goal that they were searching for in the 55th minute when they forced a corner. Kane Owen sent the ball into the box where it was met by Carlos Indjai who got the ball over the line for 1-0 as the Ton Pentre defence failed to clear the danger.

Ten minutes later Adam Lewis did well to clear the ball off the line following more Afan Lido pressure, giving Ton Pentre some belief that they could yet sneak an equaliser. However, it wasn’t to be, as the home team secured all three points in the 81st minute.

Afan Lido’s second goal was a lovely strike from Owen who tried his luck from around 25-yards out. Having hit the ball sweetly, the strike swerved past Howells and went in off the right post for 2-0.
