Richard Evans transfers to Ton Pentre from Merthyr Town

Ton Pentre are pleased to announce the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday and Newport County midfielder Richard Evans, who transfers from Merthyr Town in time to play Cardiff Met University at Ynys Park today (29 August).

A former Wales U21 player, Evans started his career as a trainee at Birmingham City and played for Sheffield Wednesday between 2003 and 2006.

Following a short period at Shrewsbury Town, Evans transferred to Newport County where he made 67 appearances for the club.

The midfielder, who is the younger brother of former Bulldogs player Mark Evans, also spent some time with Bath City before spells at Haverfordwest County, Port Talbot Town and Chippenham Town.

On capturing Evans, Bulldogs manager Lee Phillips said: “I’m very pleased to have secured the services of Richard.

“I believe that he can make a big impact here at Ynys Park and his experience should prove to be invaluable.”

The Bulldogs play Cardiff Met University today at 2.30pm.

Evans left Penydarren Park with the good wishes of his former club.
