BULLDOGS LEAVE UNI DISAPPOINTED

Cardiff Metropolitan University 2-0 Ton Pentre | Welsh League Division One | Saturday, 1 February 2015 | Cyncoed Campus

The Bulldogs were unable to knock Cardiff Metropolitan University off their perch at the top of the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One table, despite their best efforts in this match.

Ton Pentre left the Cyncoed Campus disappointed that they didn’t take something from the match despite creating some of the best chances in the game.

Cardiff Met took the lead after just 4 minutes when a they were not only allowed space to cross from the left, but Adam Roscow was also granted a free header from which he scored.

When Jaymie Wearn broke through in the 18th minute, the Bulldogs looked set to equalise when he squeezed a pass through to Leon Jacka. As Jacka was about to apply the finish, the Cardiff Met goalkeeper came through to take the ball with a jump come tackle. The chance for the Bulldogs had gone.

Wearn was involved in the play again in the 36th minute when he cut inside a defender to give himself a chance for a strike in the box. Unfortunately, his shot was saved.

Four minutes later Jacka ran up the right before picking Andre Griffiths out inside the box with a sweet pass. Griffiths hit his shot well but it was turned behind for a corner that Ton Pentre failed to capitalise from.

Ton Pentre continued to create chances in the second half and when Adam Lewis played the ball into the box from a free kick in the 71st minute, Mark Crutch headed well but the goalkeeper tipped the effort over the crossbar.

Moments later Ryan Jenkins crossed into the box from the right and Wearn also saw his header denied by the goalkeeper, whose dive saw him collect the ball in his arms.

In the 82nd minute, Cardiff Met pounced again to ensure they stayed at the top of the table by picking up all three points. Ton Pentre lost possession on the edge of their box after failing to use the ball effectively, this allowed Roscow to net his second for one of the easiest goals he’ll score this season.

Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Lee Phillips to take from the match and the Bulldogs boss will look forward to the visit of Briton Ferry Llansawel to Ynys Park on Saturday, 7 February 2015. The game kicks off at 2:00pm.
