Ton Pentre 0-1 Goytre United | Welsh League Division One | Saturday, 20 December 2014 | Ynys Park

The Bulldogs slumped to a 1-0 defeat in their final game of 2014 against Goytre United at Ynys Park, where a second half goal from Darren Griffiths was enough to separate the teams.

New Ton Pentre Manager Lee Phillips looked on from the stands and will be in full control of First Team affairs when the Bulldogs next play on Saturday, 3 January 2015 at Ynys Park against Caerau Ely.

The first half of this festive fixture between Ton Pentre and Goytre United was quite drab with very few chances. However, the Goyts did come close with a well hit free kick early on the match and Jaymie Wearn nearly scored from a tight angle when he breached the defence.

A long ball forward from Lewis Hydes to Shane Davies saw the Bulldogs midfielder beat goalkeeper Luke Martin to the ball but his header was directed wide of the post.

Youth Team goalkeeper Liam Williams produced a man of the match performance for the First Team against Goytre United.

During the open exchanges of the second half, Liam Williams was forced into making a terrific save when a Goytre United shot from outside of the box looked destined for the back of the net. Demonstrating agility and awareness, the 17 year old goalkeeper leaped to tip the ball over the crossbar.

Moments later Ryan Morgan and Williams combined to deny another Goytre United effort as they closed down an attacker to tackle and smother the ball.

The Bulldogs were now soaking up quite a bit of pressure and Williams was forced into making another great save when he spread his body to deny a pointblank shot.

A goal for Goytre United seemed inevitable and it came on 70 minutes when Griffiths had space to shoot from the edge of the box. His powerful effort eluded the reach of Williams and Goytre United were now 1-0 up.

Ton Pentre battled hard for an equaliser in the remaining 20 minutes of the match but they were unable to find the goal they desired.

The Bulldogs are next in action on Saturday, 3 January 2015, when a Caerau Ely team managed by former player Nana Baah visits Ynys Park. Kick off for this Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One match is at 2:00pm.
