AFC PORTH WIN YOUTH CLASH OF THE RHONDDA

Ton Pentre Youth 1-4 AFC Porth | Welsh League Youth Division East | Wednesday, 15 October 2014 | Ynys Park

Ton Pentre go on attack in the first half of the Rhondda Youth derby against AFC Porth at a misty Ynys Park.

The talent of the Rhondda was on show at Ynys Park as Ton Pentre and AFC Porth met in the Welsh League Youth Division East and the Black Dragons surprised the Bulldogs with an emphatic 4-1 win.

Ton Pentre dominated the opening exchanges and were creating some excellent chances with both Connor Ray and Callum Emms coming close early on but were denied by the AFC Porth goalkeeper.

There was a sense that Ton Pentre’s failure to take their chances would hurt them later in the game.

AFC Porth inflicted such a fate on them in the 30th minute of play, when a corner kick that was sent to the back post, was powerfully headed out of Liam Williams’ reach.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 after the Bulldogs defence buckled under more AFC Porth pressure when the ball was struck into the back of the net through a crowded 18-yard box.

Ton Pentre needed a reaction in the second half and they seemed to find a way back into the match, when on 51 minutes, Emms ran through into the box and finished well to make it 2-1.

Thoughts of a comeback were quickly dashed as the Black Dragons immediately went down the other end of the pitch to score and make it 3-1.

Before an hour had even passed it was game over for the Bulldogs when AFC Porth struck again with a well worked attack for their fourth.

Although they didn’t concede any more goals, it got worse for the Bulldogs in the 76th minute when their captain, Tyler Rees, saw red for receiving a second yellow card.

As a result Rees will now miss the League Cup match against Merthyr Town at Ynys Park on Sunday, 19 October 2014. The kick off for that match is at 2:00pm.
