Ton Pentre Youth 4-2 Pontypridd Town Youth | Friendly Match | Sunday, 31 August 2014 | Ynys Park

Ton Pentre Youth completed their pre-season campaign at Ynys Park with a 4-2 win over Pontypridd Town. The young Bulldogs are undefeated following five friendly matches.

In this match against Pontypridd, the Bulldogs played some lovely football and always looked dangerous in attack meaning that a goal seemed inevitable.

Despite Pontypridd Town looking quite useful themselves, it took Ton Pentre 11 minutes before grabbing the first goal when a cross into the box was met with a header from Connor Berry. The striker scored by placing the ball out of the goalkeeper’s reach in the top lefthand corner.

Play between the two teams was quite even but Ton Pentre struck again in the 27th minute when Ashton Kinsey’s high cross into the box from the right slipped through the goalkeeper’s hands and into the net. It was now 2-0 to the Bulldogs.

Pontypridd were forced to clear the ball off the line in the 33rd minute and five minutes later a well hit Bulldogs shot struck the underneath of the crossbar and on the rebound the ball was tipped over by the goalkeeper.

Before half-time Connor Ray finally scored the third goal that Ton Pentre had been threatening when the striker ran onto a clearance up the field from defence. With the Pontypridd goalkeeper rushing off his line to meet him, Ray delightfully chipped the ball into the net.

An early second half goal practically secured Ton Pentre’s win when Ray ran into the 18-yard box in the 48th minute to powerfully fire the ball into the goal. It was a fantastic finish from Ray.

In the 65th minute Pontypridd were awarded an indirect free kick in the Ton Pentre box and after a deflection off the Bulldogs wall the score was 4-1.

Pontypridd grabbed another goal back in the 74th minute when Calum Evans was judged to have committed dangerous play whilst attempting to clear a back pass with a header. This resulted in a penalty. From the spot, Evans was sent the wrong way and the match finished 4-2.

Ton Pentre will begin the Ivy Cottages Welsh League Youth Division East season at Ynys Park on Monday, 8 September against Barry Town United.

Manager Ryan Betteney and midfielder Tyler Rees talked to RadioTon following the match and you can listen to the broadcast below.
