In their final pre-season friendly before the start of the new Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One season, Ton Pentre played out a drab 0-0 draw at Llantwit Major.
This was a low-key affair with neither team really threatening in front of goal, however, Llantwit Major, who play their football in Division Three of the Welsh League, will probably feel as though they could have snatched a winner.
Were it not for the heroics of Neil Collins late on in this match, the Bulldogs could have been embarrassed as the Ton Pentre goalkeeper produced a superb one-handed save to tip the ball over the crossbar following a bullet header from close range.
Ton Pentre took at least 20 minutes to settle in this match and the only chance of note in the first half fell to Jaymie Wearn who saw his shot saved by the Llantwit goalkeeper after he was set free on goal.
The Bulldogs were better in the second half and looked more dangerous when going forward, nevertheless, they never really created a killer chance to score.
This may very well be a concern for the Ton Pentre management team going into the first match of the 2014/2015 season against Afan Lido.
The practice period is over. The real thing starts on Saturday, 16 August at the Marston’s Stadium against Afan Lido at 2:30pm.
