In their latest pre-season friendly, Ton Pentre overcame the challenge of South Wales Amateur League Division Two outfit Aberfan, despite the home team nearly shocking the Bulldogs after taking the lead in the second half.
Ton Pentre played some neat football in this match and got their reward in the 26th minute when some trickery drew a foul from the Aberfan defence.
With a free kick from around 25-yards out, Adam Raymond powered the ball into the bottom righthand side of the goal to make it 1-0.
Aberfan hit back in the 67th minute when some confusion over a break in play for some Ton Pentre substitutions allowed the home team space to run through and beat Neil Collins in the Bulldogs goal.
Shortly after it was 2-1 to Aberfan when a free kick on the edge of the box nestled nicely in the bottom righthand corner of the net.
Ton Pentre’s class however, shone through and in the 76th minute the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty after Leigh Smith was felled in the box. Ross Fowler stepped up to equalise from the spot to make it 2-2.
In the 78th minute it was 3-2 to Ton Pentre when Smith scored following a lovely move. Ryan Jenkins released Jaymie Wearn up the left and after cutting inside he squared the ball to his strike partner to score the goal.
Wearn finished the goalscoring in the 88th minute when he was played in on goal by a superb cross-field pass from Ross Porter. Wearn applied a silky finish to beat the goalkeeper to make the full-time score 4-2.
Ton Pentre’s next friendly match is on Saturday, 2 August 2014 at Ynys Park against Carmarthen Town of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League. Kick off is at 2:30pm.
