It leaves Ton Pentre facing the realistic threat of relegation from Division One as they sit four points above the drop zone. The league table does not make good reading as all of the clubs below the Bulldogs have games in hand.

This was Cwmbran Celtic’s first league win since 14th September and Ton Pentre disappointingly made it far too easy for their opponents.

Cwmbran Celtic took the lead during the 11th minute of play after Neil Collins saved well from one shot but was beaten by Joshua Bull on the follow-up, whose run had not been tracked by the Bulldogs.

Cwmbran Celtic’s lead was doubled in the 20th minute when a ball crossed from the left wing was met at the far post by an unmarked Rakesh Patel, and the midfielder easily headed the ball past a helpless Collins in the Ton Pentre goals.

It nearly got worse for the Bulldogs three minutes later when Cwmbran Celtic were through again. However, on this occasion the Gwent outfit were denied by Collins, who palmed the ball over his crossbar following a shot from pointblank range.

Dorian Sweet came close for the Bulldogs in the 39th minute when the striker was able to get on the end of Richard Ingram’s cross. Sweet’s shot however, went wide of the left post.

In the 52nd minute Patel scored again as Cwmbran Celtic easily tore through the Bulldogs to end any chance of a comeback from the Rhondda club.

Bull nearly grabbed his second of the game after appearing to run clean through on goal. However, Ton Pentre captain Adam Lewis was quick enough to catch the striker to tackle and clear the ball to safety.

Ton Pentre’s dire performance was compounded when they conceded a fourth goal in added time as Owen Llewellyn scored to finish off an effective counter attack.

This 4-0 defeat is a disastrous start to 2014 for Ton Pentre, who are now on the road for the rest of January with matches at Caerau Ely (11th), Tata Steel (18th) and AFC Porth (25th).
