Goytre United 1-1 Ton Pentre
Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One
Friday, 20th December 2013
A last gasp equaliser from Andre Griffiths saw the Bulldogs secure a point at Goytre United in difficult conditions.
Heavy rain had engulfed South Wales in the lead-up to this Nathaniel Cars Welsh League match but the pitch at Glenhafod Park Stadium had survived the deluge and there was no issue with this game going ahead.
It was a committed performance from Ton Pentre in what was a very entertaining Welsh League match, however, notwithstanding some earlier close shaves, the Bulldogs were disappointed to find themselves behind after 67 minutes.
When the ball was crossed low and hard from the right wing, Joe Clarke connected with the ball and got a fortunate deflection off Lloyd Toghill’s boot, which sent it into the net past a helpless Neil Collins and making it 1-0 to Goytre United.
The introduction of Andre Griffiths as a 70th minute substitute livened up the Bulldogs play but they appeared to run out of time in their search for an equaliser as the game ticked over into added time.
However, good work from Adam Lewis and Lewis Hydes in the 92nd minute saw the ball advance down the pitch before being crossed into the box from the left, where it was headed into the back of the net by Griffiths for a well taken goal.
The last minute equaliser was deserving of the Ton Pentre performance and the Bulldogs can now look forward to playing away at Goytre (Gwent) on Saturday, 28th December 2013 at 2.00pm.
