The Bulldogs looked good in the first-half with their creativity opening up many chances for the Rhondda outfit to take the lead. However, Goytre appeared to invite the pressure and at every opportunity they looked to slow the game down attempting to catch the Bulldogs off guard.

Ton Pentre nearly scored after just three minutes of the match when George Daly’s pass to Ross Fowler allowed the striker to take a shot. His goal bound effort was blocked by a defender with the ball deflecting to Hydes who was following up. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Hydes put his shot wide of the post.

Somewhat against the run of play, despite only six minutes of the match having been played, Goytre sneaked in a goal when Luke Prosser put the ball out of the reach of Neil Collins’ dive.

The Bulldogs were dominating the play and after battling for the ball in midfield, Leon Young played a superb through ball for Fowler to run onto. The Bulldogs striker cleanly hit the ball beating the goalkeeper, however, the effort hit the crossbar.

By the half-time interval, the Bulldogs were unfortunate to be a goal behind, particularly with the good chances that they had managed to create.

Prosser came close to grabbing a second for Goytre with a rare chance when he latched onto a long ball that was lofted forward on the hour mark. Having hit the ball well, Goytre were ready to celebrate but Collins pulled off a fine save for Ton Pentre, tipping the shot onto the crossbar.

In the 68th minute the Bulldogs came close to equalising again when Josh Powell crossed into the box from the right. Fowler was positioned well but headed the ball just over the bar.

In the 77th minute, Goytre counter-attacked and when Prosser applied a deft finish to the ball, Collins was beaten for a second time as the Goytre team went 0-2 up.

Despite the best efforts of Adam Lewis and Neil Collins, Goytre's Luke Prosser makes it 0-2 to the visitors.

Although Ton Pentre’s second-half performance was not equal to their display in the first, the Bulldogs continued to create chances until full-time, without finding that killer touch. A left side cross towards Lloyd Toghill’s run presented the home team with their last useful chance of the game in the 86th minute. Toghill connected well but sent his shot wide of the post.

Goytre’s win kept the Gwent club top of Welsh League Division One leaving the Bulldogs to lick their wounds ahead of their visit to Cwmbran Celtic on Saturday, 28th September 2013. Kick off for this match will be at 2.30pm.
