Ton Pentre were completely dominant in a first half performance that would have pleased manager Dean Morris. The Bulldogs retained possession well and this forced Llantwit Fardre to come looking for the ball, which tired the home team players.

From early on the Bulldogs deserved the lead with their play and in the 8th minute they went 1-0 up when Jaymie Wearn used his trickery on the left to cut in behind a Llantwit Fardre defender. With the defender in a spin, Wearn was allowed space to cross the ball and it was turned into the net by a Llantwit Fardre player who could do nothing to avoid the ball.

Wearn was in the thick of the action again in the 21st minute when the Bulldogs were awarded a corner. It was taken short between Lloyd Toghill and Richard Ingram before being worked to the edge of the box where Wearn was on hand to strike the ball low and hard past Lee Ruddall in the Llanwit Fardre goals, making it 2-0.

In the second half, the Bulldogs failed to emulate the complete control of the match that they had achieved in the first, and this allowed the hosts to create some goal scoring chances.

Having threatened, Llantwit Fardre pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute with a shot that Bulldogs goalkeeper Ryan Betteney thought was going wide. As the ball nestled calmly just inside the keeper’s right-hand post, the score was 2-1 providing Llantwit Fardre with hopes of an equaliser.

The home team could have equalised in the remaining 15 minutes but the Bulldogs remained resolute and also missed a few golden chances to increase their lead further themselves.

Ton Pentre have two matches remaining in their pre-season schedule ahead of the Welsh League Division One season. The first is an away trip to Aberfan on Tuesday, 6th August before the Bulldogs welcome Welsh Premier League outfit Carmarthen Town to Ynys Park on Saturday, 10th August at 2.30pm.
