Penydarren were camped in their own half of the pitch for the majority of the first 45 minutes of this match, but Ton Pentre were unable to penetrate their opponents defence and create some effective goal scoring opportunities.

The match came to life in the second half as Penydarren raised their game with the Merthyr based club becoming more adventurous.

Neil Collins had to pull off a fantastic save to deny Penydarren the lead when their striker went clean through on the edge of the box. As the striker looked to lift the ball over the Ton Pentre goalkeeper, Collins stretched his arm to push the ball away at point blank range. With the ball dropping to a Penydarren player, they looked likely to score again but the ball crashed onto the top of the crossbar.

With just over ten minutes of the match left, Penydarren capitalised after the Bulldogs lost possession just inside their half of the pitch. With a cross from the left, the ball was met at the far post where it was headed into the back of the Ton Pentre net to give Penydarren a dream lead.

Penydarren looked good to hold onto the lead but Ton Pentre were able to conjure a little magic to save their blushes when inside the last five minutes Richard Ingram played the ball to Dorian Sweet in the Penydarren penalty area. In turn, Sweet laid the ball off for Ingram to cross back into the box for John Edwards to head in an equaliser and finish off a lovely passage of play.

Ton Pentre will look for an improved performance in their next pre-season friendly on Saturday, 3rd August at Llantwit Fardre. The match kicks off at 2.30pm.
