Thomas Davies was the big winner at the Ton Pentre AFC Awards Night for the 2012/2013 season, after the Bulldogs defender picked up four of the six awards on offer, with Jaymie Wearn bagging the other two.
Ton Pentre Chairman Bryan Bees, Secretary Ken Jones and Manager Dean Morris reflected upon the past season before the invited guests, which included Club sponsor Jill Evans MEP, MacWhirter Welsh League Secretary Ken Tucker, local councillors Shelley Rees-Owen & Maureen Weaver and John Bowen, assisted in presenting the trophies.
The first award to be presented was the Manager’s Player of the Year and Dean Morris announced that he had chosen Thomas Davies for his consistency throughout the season.
The Goal of the Season was awarded to Jaymie Wearn for his wonderful effort in the FAW Welsh Cup Round One match against Dinas Powys at Ynys Park played on 20th October 2012, which the Bulldogs won 3-1.
Thomas Davies was voted the Players’ Player of the Year by his fellow teammates and Jaymie Wearn was presented with his Top Goalscorer award after scoring 14 goals for the Bulldogs during the 2012/2013 season.
The Club Player of the Year, selected by the Ton Pentre AFC Committee, saw Thomas Davies receive his third trophy of the evening.
The final trophy to be presented was the Kenny Bowen Memorial Shield Supporters Player of the Year.
This has become an exciting award as we provide an opportunity for the supporters to vote for the recipient here on TonPentreAFC.com. Goalkeeper Jonathan Howe was in third place with 9% of the vote, meanwhile Cub Captain Adam Lewis came second with 13% but the winner of the Kenny Bowen Memorial Shield Supporters Player of the Year was handed to Thomas Davies with 37% of the vote.
A moment was then taken to remember two Bulldogs fans that passed away during the season and tributes were paid to John Jones and Mark Reynolds.
Mark’s brother Kevin, who was helped through the difficult time by the football club, was presented with a book containing all the remembrance messages that were received via the Club’s website and Facebook page.
The final presentation was made to Gaynor Dowling, Michelle Hardy and Marilyn James for their work in the canteen at Ynys Park. The trio were presented with flowers by Jill Evans.
Following the awards a Club spokesperson said: “We’d like to congratulate Tom Davies on his deserved success. The defender has been a consistent performer this season which has been recognised by the Club, his manager, the supporters and his fellow teammates.”
