Cambrian & Clydach Vale v Ton Pentre
MacWhirter Welsh League Division One
Friday, 7th February 2013
Kick off: 7.00pm
Ton Pentre are set to play their first football match since the 5-3 away loss to Taffs Well back on the 11th January and it’s not ideal that they go straight into a Rhondda Derby clash at Cambrian & Clydach Vale on Friday, 8th February with a lack of match practice.
Ton’s opponents returned to action last weekend, following the disruptive December and January weather, with a 1-4 win at bottom of the table Goytre United. As a result Cambrian & Clydach Vale will be feeling positive ahead of this derby clash as they can look forward to meeting the Bulldogs cold.
Ton Pentre will be without suspended striker Joe Leahy for the game as he sits out the last of a three match suspension. It’s a ban that has been hanging over the former Merthyr Town frontman since the beginning of December.
Other than that, Ton supremo Dean Morris will be hopeful that he will have a fully fit squad to choose from when they report to Cambrian’s King George V New Field home on Friday for a 7.00pm kick off.
Meanwhile, third placed Cambrian will themselves expect to see a full strength squad show for duty under Jarrad Harvey’s charge.
The reigning Welsh League Division One champions will hope that players such as Jason Bertorelli, Michael Jones and Lee Matthews, will show enough quality to prove their “favourites” tag for the match and win all three points with home advantage against the Bulldogs.
However, the last three meetings between the two clubs have ended in draws, so the form book suggests a tight match. Although goals cannot be guaranteed, one thing can, and that is an exciting game of derby football.
